The walk begins down by the quay. We learn that much of what you see was formerly under water and Beccles fen, as it is known, is the result of reclamation and drainage work. We learn how Beccles was quite late in having this section of the Waveney made navigable and its hayday was cut short by the coming of the railway. But some locals recall the days when Beccles was still a working quay. We then walk over to the bridge for one of the great views in East Anglia.
