St Michael's Church, Beccles is remarkable in having a separate church tower. We meet the Rev. John Beauchamp who explains the very sensible reasons why this is. We also learn that beneath our feet are numerous smugglers tunnels and Ray Bartrum, who runs a pet shop in the town, recalls how his uncle once went exploring, with a piece of string to help him get back. He ended up on the other side of town, but then the string broke!
