We return to the Thoroughfare by passing under the bi-pass road, looking out for kingfishers as we go. We emerge back in the Thoroughfare through an archway, by a shop formerly owned by the grandfather of a famous television personality. In the Thoroughfare, we hear from many of the voices we have met on the walk, who extol its virtues. We look at a 14th century carving above the wine bar, before heading back towards the Angel Hotel. James Haywood, who runs a second hand bookshop, rounds of the walk with his opinion that this is the perfect example of how to build a pedestrianised street. "And they've made a paradise" he says!
